The Online Gallery Magazine
Edition 03 - 09

Working alongside The Online Gallery since its inception in the heat of the pandemic (2020), our collective goal has been to support emerging and established voices across the spectrum of art and design through creating engaging and dynamic printed media that expresses their unique perspective in the world of art.

Edition 03
Issue 3 of the OG zine started to come together at the height of the COVID-19 lockdown in the Summer of 2020. Throughout August and September, the team collected interviews with members of their creative community. Makers, thinkers and organizers throughout the art, design and music industry demonstrated their acumen and resourcefulness as they built new and inspiring modes of support, fostering esprit de corps during truly exceptional times.

A year later, as we continue to face new and unprecedented challenges, these stories of ingenuity and resilience are as relevant as ever, and have been collated into a special interviews edition of the OG.

For this issue, we were asked to continue in our long-standing role as magazine designers.

We sought to bring this rich and intriguing content to life while reflecting the chaotic nature of the COVID-19 pandemic. We gave each transcribed interview its its own aesthetic and identity through the use of expressive typography, colour and varied layout decisions.

Each of us have been uniquely effected by the pandemic, leading to a variety of experiences through this shared time. As a result, it was important for us to inject each interview with its own energy and aesthetic whilst helping to keep the viewer engaged with each page turn.

Edition 04
Towards the end of last year we launched The Online Gallery magazine issue 4, which coincided with Art Basel Miami 2021. We were invited to attend and celebrate the ongoing success and deep collaboration that makes the OG Magazine such a unique venture.Created in partnership with our sister company Rosie Lee Creative, Issue 4 of the OG magazine showcases ‘Pioneers’ — individuals who are forging their own paths, and shifting paradigms within the cultural spaces they inhabit. The magazine considers what it means to be a true pioneer: one who uncovers new ground - begins, introduces, instigates, develops, and evolves.

The Online Gallery Magazine is something wonderful to read, look at and to hold, bringing together a rich mix of art, design and culture for the pioneers issue published towards the end of 2021.

Working closely with The Online Gallery team, our design choices aim to reflect the written content, with each section of the magazine encapsulating the identity of the feature. Our choices of colour, typography and layout all help us to dictate the pace of the magazine, whilst developing an engaging aesthetic.

Contributors for OG Magazine Issue 4 include: Andrew, Derrick Adams, Daniel Buezo of Kid of Immigrants, Autumn Breo, Jia Jia Fei, Walshy Fire of Major Lazer, Derek Fleming of Red Rooster, Shane Griffin, Krista Kim, Laura Lupton of Galleries Commit, Raina Mehler of Superblue, Anna Park, Tony Patrick, Claudia Pena, Michele Pred, Reo, Finnegan Shepard of Both&, Hank Willis Thomas, Rich Tu of First Get Burden, Michelle Woo and the Wide Awakes.

Edition 05
Coinciding with Frieze Los Angeles 2022, Issue 5 of The Online Gallery Magazine is dropping this weekend! The team behind the magazine is formed of 3 creative entities: Against Time, Rosie Lee Creative and The Online Gallery. The on-going collaboration see sister companies Rosie Lee Creative and Agains Time working on the design of the magazine, with The OG team(Online Gallery) pulling the strings behind the scenes organising and curating the content that features in each Issue.

“The Online Gallery (The OG) is a digital platform and print magazine that focuses on the intersection of all creative sectors, anchored by contemporary art, and filtered through the editorial lens of curators, artists and community organizers. The mission to create space and support for emerging and established voices across the spectrum is made possible because our community is our content.”

The latest edition of the OG Magazine seeks to shine a spotlight on those who hold ‘Legacy’,  highlighting those who have upheld heritage and traditions while also redefining spaces and catalyzing change.

“Legacies exist as property, money or ideas bequeathed from one individual to another, spanning generations and time. They are lasting impressions or a gesture toward “forever,” implying history, longevity and permanence. And yet the events, and actions that make them, are rare examples of ingenuity and innovation — anomalies that break patterns and contradict the notion of continuity, which ironically is integral to the concept of “legacy.”

In a time when global connectivity via the internet creates a wellspring of ideas and information, The Online Gallery Magazine aims to bring forth those with lasting impressions. The magazine dives deep into the work and practice of some huge names such as Mickalene Thomas, Shepard Fairey, Jonathan Mannion and Studio Drift as well as interview content courtesy of Rich Tu who speaks with both The Hundreds and Melody Ehsani.

The talented list of contributors form the inspiration for the experimental layout design, influencing colour and typographic choices that aim to encapsulating certain charististics about the contributors and their work. The evolution of the magazine has lead to each feature having a different identity, this energy and visual excitement is a huge part of the online gallery magazine aesthetic. The design teams curation and design work looks to expertly orchestrate the pace and emotion of the magazine, with each page turn competing to be as visually exciting as the next.

Contributors for OG Magazine Issue 5 include:
Humberto Leon, Daniela Elbahara, Jonathon Mannion, Shepard Fairey, Koreatown and Loveclub, Mickalene Thomas, Jeffrey Deitch, First Gen Burden, Ben and Bobby Hundreds, Melody Ehsani, Cedric Adams, Marilyn Minter and Studio Drift.

This edition coincides with this weekends Chicago Expo 2022, peeling back the layers of how and why, yielding responses as divergent and innovative as the visionaries featured in this issue. In an era that remains hysterically devoted to facade, Edition Six - Process & Practice -delves deep into the foundations and blueprints of the feature creatives, celebrating the processes and practices that bring visions to life.

The talented list of creatives that feature in the magazine form the inspiration for our experimental layout design, influencing colour and typographic choices. Edition 07
The seventh edition of the Online Gallery Magazine sought to shine a light on artists and visionaries who intersect activism and creative work in new and provocative ways. We were asked to design the magazine, continuing our ongoing relationship.

For each edition of the magazine we take inspiration from the talented list of contributors. Our designs seek to amplify their work and personality, to encapsulate their characteristics through colour, layout and typography.

For this issue, the theme was ‘Artistic Activism’, so we moved towards graphically strong, bold and stencil-like typography.

Contributors for OG Magazine Issue 7 include:
Eddie Arroyo, Lindsay Adams, Sheldon Scott, Blue Light Junction, Rewind Collective, Nate Lewis, Abby Pucker & Zoe Lukov, Dee Dwyer, Chris Pyrate, Keyonna Jones, Ronald Moten, Hank Willis Thomas, Antonio Gibson, Lindsey Brittain Collins, Yashua Klos, Liz Plank, Paul Stephen Benjamin, Jeffrey Meris.

Edition 09
The launch of the ninth edition of the Online Gallery Magazine, in February, coincided with the LA Freize festival 2023, reinforcing the themes present in this edition.

From the Editor:

In Edition 9, we double down on our commitment to creatives, culture, and community. We’re most interested in the intersections that bind these three pillars together, how creativity begets community, how community creates culture, and how culture becomes fertile ground for further creative output….

The artists and contributors reputation, artwork and interviews from the zine form the inspiration for our layout design, colour and typographic choices. Our designs encapsulate the personality of each creative and their work, orchestrating the pace and emotion of the magazine, ultimately creating an exciting and dynamic design.

Contributors for OG Magazine Issue 9 include:

Genevieve Gaignard, Justen LeRoy, Jason Thome, Derrick Adams, Wintor McNeel, College Track, Kennedy Yanko, Andrea Bowers, Sanford Biggers, Rodney McMillian, Derek Fordjour, Olympia Auset, Devin Reynolds.
